Collaborative launch
Dozens of innovators and healthcare leaders joined forces at our inaugural Health Innovation Collaborative to exchange ideas about driving improvements in care. The event, at the University of Central Lancashire’s eye-catching Engineering and Innovation Centre in Preston, is the first of a series in the North West Coast that aims to bring together health and care leaders and innovators from industry to tackle healthcare service priorities. Digital boost for mental health services
The potential of extended reality (XR) to improve mental health services was the focus of a showcase that attracted innovators from across the north of England. XR has the potential to offer faster and more accessible support to individuals and the event drew innovators and healthcare leaders to learn and share experiences. You can read more here.

In last month’s newsletter we brought you news of Health Innovation North, a major conference we hosted with our partner health innovation networks to tackle some of the north of England’s intractable healthcare challenges. SBRI Healthcare competitions
SBRI (the Small Business Research Initiative) Healthcare is a national programme dedicated to funding innovators with health and care solutions. It has launched four competitions for innovations that support stroke care, urgent and emergency care, women’s health and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Medicines safety
Are you interested in helping the Health Innovation Network to shape the 2025 National Medication Safety Programmes?
We want to hear from you if you have undertaken any work to address medication safety or optimisation in:
- Psychotropic prescribing in learning disabilities and/or autism patients
- Medication safety and optimisation to reduce falls and / or fractures in frail patients
Health Innovation North West Coast is working with national colleagues on a year-long national scoping exercise to discover and develop innovations being used locally that could be scaled up nationally.

Help us reduce adverse drug reactions
Health Innovation North West Coast is hosting focus groups to better understand how the emerging field of pharmacogenetics can reduce adverse drug reactions, enhance treatment outcomes and lower healthcare costs. We need a range of views from professionals at all levels of care who are involved in any part of prescribing pathways. Read more.
ABHI industry survey
The Association of British Health Tech Industries (ABHI) has launched its annual industry survey, The Pulse of the UK HealthTech industry, and wants to hear from as many HealthTech companies as possible. Please help the association weigh up industry views.
Medtech pathway consultation
NHS England and the National Institute for Health and Care (NICE) have launched a consultation on proposals to introduce a new pathway for the appraisal, funding and commissioning of medtech in the NHS. The proposals aim to ensure patients can benefit from faster access to the growing number of cutting-edge products recommended by NICE.
