Maternity project is a lifesaver
A project to improve outcomes in maternity and neonatal services has potentially saved up to 102 lives. A Health Innovation North West Coast team has been supporting maternity and neonatal teams to implement a series of measures in a care bundle. Read about it here.

Collaborate to innovate: ABPI / NHS Confederation report
NHS Confederation has released a new report in partnership with the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) and patient charity leaders which looks at the barriers to building a culture of innovation, with practical actions to encourage an innovative culture, as well as successful case studies of collaborative research in action. MedTech device tackles knee pain
Health Innovation North West Coast has supported the introduction of new technology that reduces knee pain in osteoarthritis patients. The devices, developed by AposHealth, are worn on the feet to reduce pain and improve function, and are in use at the Wirral limb centre. They have been introduced as part of the MedTech Funding Mandate policy, which we have helped to implement in our region.
Specialist briefing: patient and public involvement
Our partner health innovation network UCLPartners is hosting an online event on 21 May inviting innovators to hear how engaging with patients early on can lead to success in working in the NHS. Innovators will be guided through the principles of patient and public involvement and engagement and learn how to engage meaningfully with patients and the public. The event is free to attend and people can register here.
Happy Hearts website
The Happy Hearts website aims to reduce heart attacks and stroke and is aimed at both those at risk of disease and health professionals – and the site has just been refreshed. It has several stakeholders in Cheshire and Merseyside, including Health Innovation North West Coast, and is well worth a visit.
Cluster anniversary
The North West Health Cluster holds its fifth anniversary conference on 21 May at Sci-Tech Daresbury. The event will focus on cancer research and innovation, with discussions on health inequalities and how research and innovation can close the gap. It will also showcase developments in advanced therapies and advanced computing.
AI technology in homecare trial
Our partners Health Innovation West of England have published the findings of its trial of AI optimisation technology in domiciliary care. The three-year trial identified opportunities for local authorities and care providers to improve the planning of homecare, offering potentially significant benefits for care workers, service users and the social care sector.
