Health Innovation North West Coast was key to bringing together a clinician and innovator to relaunch Mersey Burns – a mobile app to help doctors quickly and accurately prescribe the correct amount of resuscitation fluids for patients with traumatic burn injuries. Read our story.
SBRI Greener NHS programme awards announced
Health Innovation North West Coast supported Redmoor Health (£97,500) and Tunley Environmental (£99,000) in their recent SBRI Healthcare funding bid. This funding, in partnership with the Greener NHS programme and Health Innovation Network, awarded £3.2 million to 22 innovations that aim to improve patient care and save money, while also making the NHS greener. Innovators named in prestigious cohort
The NHS Innovation Accelerator 2024 fellows were announced on 27 March. Health Innovation North West Coast was pleased to see that the cohort included innovators who we have been collaborating with for years, such as: Steve Barnett from C2-Ai; Matthew Beatty MD from Surgery Hero; Taz Aldawoud from Doc Abode; and Dr Julian Nesbitt from Dr Julian Medical Group. This recognition is well deserved and will only help them deliver even more ground-breaking healthcare innovation here in the north west coast and beyond.
Accelerator focuses on cardiovascular disease
Health Innovation North West and the three other northern health innovation networks are combining their expertise through the Digital North accelerator programme. This year the focus is on cardiovascular disease (CVD), which continues to be a high priority area for us and our partners. We are working with 4 innovators this year: Addvantage Technologies, PocDoc, iPlato and CheqUp. Learn more.
New MedTech Funding Mandate technology being used in the North West
AposHealth has been announced as the first new technology selected for MedTech Funding Mandate support in 2024-25. It is a non-invasive device worn on the feet to reduce pain and improve function in patients with knee osteoarthritis. The device is recommended for patients unsuitable for knee replacement surgery. A few dozen patients are currently using it at the Wirral Limb Centre, and we will have more details on this throughout 2024. Read more.

- Medilink Healthcare Business Awards: Blum Health received the Partnership with the NHS: Secondary Care Award
- HSJ Partnership Awards 2024: C2-Ai & NHS Cheshire and Merseyside: Best Elective Care Recovery Initiative (Silver) for its artificial intelligence-backed stratification and prioritisation of the elective waiting list; Cyted & NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria: Diagnostics Project of the Year (Bronze) for Cytoprime; and congratulations again to Rhiannon Clarke who was shortlisted for Most Impactful Project Addressing Health Inequalities with Optum and NHS Cheshire and Merseyside for the fuel poverty project.

Millions of pounds of funding for Liverpool City Region (LCR)
The LCR Life Sciences Investment Zone has officially launched, paving the way for up to £800m of public and private investment and 8,000 new jobs. Investment Zone plans include an initial 21 projects designed to drive innovation and deliver opportunities. Learn more.
