Cluster board appointment
Congratulations to Lindsay Sharples, our Associate Director Innovation Partnerships, who has been appointed Chair of the Liverpool City Region Health and Life Sciences cluster board. The Combined Authority’s new boards, which you can read about here, aim to drive growth and influence policy.
Collaborating for medicines safety
Health Innovation North West Coast has helped establish a programme to reduce the avoidable harm caused by opioids. We worked with the integrated care systems in Cheshire and Merseyside and Lancashire and South Cumbria to develop a ‘whole-system’ approach to the challenge of high-risk opioid prescribing for chronic non-cancer pain. Award wins
There were big award nights in March, with several of our innovators receiving recognition:
- Medilink Healthcare Business Awards: Blum Health received the Partnership with the NHS: Secondary Care Award.
- HSJ Partnership Awards 2024: C2-Ai & NHS Cheshire and Merseyside: Best Elective Care Recovery Initiative (Silver) for its artificial intelligence-backed stratification and prioritisation of the elective waiting list; Cyted & NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria: Diagnostics Project of the Year (Bronze) for Cytoprime; and congratulations again to Rhiannon Clarke who was shortlisted for Most Impactful Project Addressing Health Inequalities with Optum and NHS Cheshire and Merseyside for the fuel poverty project.
- Bionow Awards: Congratulations go to IQoro on winning Product of the Year Award for their product MYoroface:IQoro Neuromuscular Training Device. We are delighted to have sponsored this outstanding award.
NIPP programme
The findings of 14 collaborative projects, which identified and tested promising innovations to support new ways of working in the NHS, have been published.
The NHS Insights Prioritisation Programme (NIPP) aimed to contribute to the recovery from COVID-19, build resilience and deliver benefits to patients.
Health innovation networks and the National Institute for Health and Care Research Applied Research Collaborations formed partnerships to test and evaluate innovative approaches. Here in the North West Coast, we worked with ARC North West Coast on a project to support the early transfer home of preterm infants.

Innovation Exchange website closure
The Innovation Exchange website will close on 30 April 2024. It was set up to provide a collaboration forum for innovators and clinicians and it provided many insights. Resources are now being redirected to other ways to achieve the same connections. Users must make any copies of text information and/or take any screenshots of information on this site before 30 April.

The Digital North Accelerator programme provides innovative organisations with access to tailored support and advice. It promotes the uptake and growth of new technologies, accelerating engagement with NHS stakeholders. You can read more here.
